Kerrie Ann is a Wolverhampton-based author who blends sharp plotting with warmth, wit, and a dash of mischief. By day, she supports schools with data and systems; by night, she crafts cozy crime thrillers full of secrets and sleuthing. Her Fox Files series features strong female leads and twisty mysteries, often inspired by her favorite TV personalities—think Emma Stone’s charm, Rupert Friend’s intensity, and Bradley Cooper’s charisma. When she’s not writing, Kerrie enjoys board games, true crime documentaries, and cuddles with her dog, Rolo and her cat, Mittens.
I asked Kerrie several questions about her latest book, Death On The Waves and here are her answers.
- What inspired you to write this particular book?
A: The initial spark came from my personal love of reading books. I love reading cosy mysteries and I love reading thrillers, so I thought…why not mix them together! For “Death on the Waves,” I wanted to explore the confined setting of a ship. The catalyst was imagining a classic locked-room mystery—but where the room is an entire luxury transatlantic liner. That setting immediately provided the tension and limited cast of suspects.
A: The main challenge for me was keeping track of my characters, what they look like, and who they are; their backgrounds and how they react to certain situations. Continuing into the second book has helped with this, because I feel like they are now becoming my friends, or even part of me!
- What do you hope readers will take away from your book?
A: I hope readers get a fun, classic, and ultimately satisfying escape. I want them to feel like they’ve gone on a proper voyage! If the book sparks a discussion about the complex relationships formed in isolated, high-pressure environments, I’d consider that a success. I like to think that my characters and plot remain with my reader, long after the final page is turned.
- How did your research (if applicable) shape the story?
A: Research was vital for creating an authentic setting. I have never been on a cruise!! I focused on the layouts and daily routines of vintage ocean liners. This research shaped the story by determining where the murder could physically happen and how the suspect list could be restricted.
- What’s next for you?
A: I’m deep into my next project! After “Death on the Waves” and my second book, “Death in the Hotel,” I’m working on a third mystery, “Death at the Fayre”.
- Where can readers find your book?
A: Since “Death on the Waves” is self-published, readers can find it, along with my second book, “Death in the Hotel,” which is due out in December, on Amazon. It’s also available in Waterstones (Online orders only), Barnes and Noble (Online orders only) and places such as Apple Books and Kobo.
Kerry Ann, thank you so much! I’m really excited for you and wish you the greatest success with this and your upcoming projects.
