In this scene, which takes place shortly after Ian arrives on planet to reunite with Khadija, the natives put on a welcoming performance for him.

As the atmosphere thickened with anticipation, lively music began to fill the air, drawing everyone’s attention to a vibrant corner of the hall. A troupe of dancers burst forth, their bodies leaping gracefully into the air, each movement fluid and exhilarating. They landed effortlessly back-to-back in pairs, their synchronized choreography unfolding like a told through motion. With rhythmic precision, they rubbed their backs against one another, then pressed chest to chest before the males lifted the females high into the air. The dancers twirled and spun, the females swirling like leaves caught in a playful breeze, before being gently lowered to the ground. In an exhilarating display of energy, everyone switched partners, laughter and music intertwining, creating a tapestry of joy that filled the grand hall.

Ian’s table quickly transformed into the pulsating heart of the celebration, drawing the performers like moths to a flame. As they danced around him, their playful energy crackled in the air, and they acknowledged his presence with light, teasing touches on his shoulders as they gracefully glided past. The female dancers were tossed into the air, their laughter mingling with the music, their skirts swirling in a vibrant display that flirtatiously revealed glimpses of their undergarments. Seizing the opportunity of their proximity, Ian curiously observed if they possessed tails, but to his bewilderment, he saw none.

In a breathtaking finale, the dancers ascended to the rafters of the domed ceiling, their movements a symphony of grace as they somersaulted down to the floor, landing in a stunning geometric formation. The pattern broke apart like a kaleidoscope, and one by one, they exited the grand hall, leaving a lingering sense of wonder in their wake. Moments later, servers glided in with covered trays, and Ian felt a surge of anticipation, expecting an exotic culinary surprise. However, when the lids were lifted, his excitement deflated as he beheld a spread of simple cooked vegetables, steaming soups, and long, crusty rolls of bread. Turning to Khadija, he asked, “They don’t eat meat?”

“No, dear. The consumption of meat is forbidden here,” she replied, her tone matter-of-fact yet gentle.
