Love your videos!! Would recommend using Storygraph, which is a Black-owned reading app, instead of Goodreads, which is sadly owned by Amazon.
Loved this review! I will be checking these titles out from my library and buying the unavailable titles. Thank you for this video production 🔥
I've been a fan of Afrofuturism for quite a while. Based on this recommendation, I bought "The Fifth Season." I would LOVE to see you review more books by African authors.
❤️ N.K. Jemison
♨️Ahhh *AFAR is so breathtaking . Thank you for these reviews they're very helpful and informative.
Thanks for sharing! After falling in love with the Binti series this has been a genre that’s interested me greatly. Just requested Afar from my library! ❤️❤️
Hey ONYX! I just discovered your channel. I think it is awesome. As an artist I am always looking to discover other creatives work so I can appreciate the beauty of artistic diversity. Thank you for the awesome reviews.
I’m binging on your channel and so glad to find some book recommendations.
The Stone Sky sounds really interesting will check it out!
Hey Njeri. I just wanted to drop in and thank you for focusing on Afrofuturism on your channel. It's so important that we highlight different voices in fiction: these recommendations look wonderful.
Your video came at the right time! New to the genre and writing my own fantasy play. Thanks for suggestions 🙂
So glad I've found you!! I really enjoyed this review. Thank you.
I'm so glad I found your video. I haven't read a good book in 2 years. Can't find anything that holds my attention. Will try these books. 👏👍
Well, Nalo Hopkinson and NK Jemisin are both already on my TBR, but AFAR looks as amazing as it sounds and is going on my TBR (I have NEVER read a GN before!), the cover of The Prey of Gods is calling to me so it goes on too…
I totally just bought The Prey of Gods!
Thank you onyxpages for sharing these titles and authors who I have not heard a lot about on booktube. This is so amazing! I am subscribed.
Wow, afar tribe is part of my country and the woman on the cover has a traditional hair style
Afar looks beautiful and amazing 😭 You sold me, I'm buying it 🙂
I love graphic novels. Afar and The Prey of Gods have been added to my list. I appreciate your rich and colourful descriptions of a novel's content. Njeri, thank you for turning my mind to Afrofuturism and to booktube. 🙂
Yes yes yes I’ve got some new books for my TBR now, thank you!!!😍
Thanks for sharing your Top 5! I want to read the World of Wakanda. I need to get on that. Side note: thanks for explaining Afrofuturism to me. I was able to identify and understand a short story in What Happens when a Man Falls From the Sky by Lesley Nneka Arimah.
Is this your new camera? It looks really good! The Stone Sky is definitely one of the best things I read this year.
I really enjoyed this video. I appreciate your summaries of each book and the graphic novel. I love graphic novels and I appreciate the ways you show parts of the novel as you describe it. As a visual learner, I get a better sense of each book and the graphic novel by listening deeply to your vivid and colourful descriptions of different scenes. You have really brought intersectionality to the forefront in your summaries. As an African descent, queer, gender non-conforming Blerd/reader with diverse learning abilities, I am thankful for your summaries and Onyx Pages. I am excited to continue following your booktube channel in 2018.
Welp I just got five more books for my TBR!!! Hahaha great video!!!
I think I have a sampler of Afar sitting around somewhere, but haven't looked at it yet. I think I'll go look for it soon because it sounds really good based on your description!
I have to check out Nalo Hopkinson's work and I had heard briefly that Roxane Gay was working on graphic novels, I did not know any were related to the Black Panther world. I am SUPER excited about that movie but I know almost nothing about the character and the world and I would love to learn more so I will have to pick that one up!
The Stone Sky was a "fitting end" to the trilogy, possibly my favourite.
Both of the trilogy and of the year?
Prey of Gods was very good, my only criticism of it would be there was possibly too much story?
I would have been tempted to end it at the concert and return with another book about the robot revolution, possibly the new drug more of the dik dik and bioscience stuff etc.
There was so much happening it could have been spread over 2?
Confession: i own fifth season and have been dying to read it, but also afraid 😂 I’ve just had a rough year and I’m the type to keep the emotions of a book with me, a really sad book can send me into a major funk for weeks. Am i building it up too much? Is it that sad or will i be fine? Thanks for great recommendations!
Ughhh! I'm so upset with myself. I just spent my gift card and I didn't order Afar. The Prey of Gods cover is absolutely incredible. Thank you so much for your book reviews. Book tube just keeps getting better.
