As african liberation month (Black History month) approaches, I am going to make a point of reading at least one of the afrofuturism graphic novels you have presented in your videos. I am happy to see that more people are connecting to your brilliance on booktube. Thank you for taking the time to film these informative videos.
I bought Afrofuturism when I was in D.C. and I really want to read that one soon. This entire haul is on my to buy list now, lol. Thank you.
I'm excited to see the reviews of these books. Some sound right up my alley while others… 🤔
I read AfroSF (a yr ago?) I think it was a South African publication originally (?) the first story is Nnedi Okorafor's which is from Lagoon basically the swordfishes tale from the beginning of Lagoon, I supposed they wanted at least one "big name" to attract readers?
Then it had a story from a South African woman who is part of the writing duo who wrote The Mall series, SA horror SF. I think there are 3 books in the series? Naturally enough for me, I read them out-of-order starting with number 3 The New Girl which I liked enough to go on to #1(The Mall?). Maybe bc. I'd read #3 first it didn't have the "surprise factor" which I liked in #3.
Then the 3rd story was by the Zimbabwean author who wrote The Hairdresser of Harare, which I liked but isn't SF, more a story reflecting life in Zimbabwe today or even a couple of yrs ago?
His short story is SF, a commentary on modern Zimbabwe but set in an SF future. It also was very good.
The rest of the authors I wasn't familiar with. About 3 of the stories I can remember quite well. even these years later, which is a good sign. 🙂
God I love your videos 🙂
Thank you Njeri. So many engaging books.
