I recently read the book What They Meant For Evil by South Sudanese/American author Rebecca Deng and highly recommend it.

My husband and I listened to Astrophysics for People in a hurry – it was pretty interesting, and he narrates it himself, so that was cool.
I bought Hood Feminism, and just need to get to it!!!

Nice picks! My favorite recently has been Michelle Alexander's "The New Jim Crow". I'd definitely like to read some Roxanne Gay as well, haven't read any of her stuff yet.

Really appreciated hearing your thoughts on all of these! I read Emmanuel Acho's book earlier this year and thought it was really fantastic, but definitely aimed towards a white readership. I think it would be a great starting point for someone who wants to understand more about race

I hope your exams go well!! I'm interested to hear what you think of Emmanuel Acho's book. I recently listened to it and it seemed like a good primer for people who don't know where to start in anti-racism conversations, but I thought it seemed very surface.

Also Nikki Giovanni was the speaker at my college graduation and I've always been meaning to pick up her works and I never have 😬I need to get on that

Your plants are so beautiful! I've read Bad Feminist and How to be an Antiracist and they are both so good! Hood Feminist is on my TBR I hope to get to it soon.

I've read Bad Feminist and Hunger, but I still need to read Roxane Gay's other work! Currently I'm reading a gothic horror ARC called Within These Wicked Walls by Lauren Blackwood, which is a Jane Eyre retelling, but it's in Ethiopia I believe, and there's real supernatural evil going on 👻

Thanks for the video. 'Hood Feminism' is one I'd like to get, among others.

I've got a decent collection now.

Read:
'A Mighty Long Way' – Carlotta Walls LaNier (5 stars)
'When They Call You a Terrorist' – Patrisse Khan-Cullors (5 stars)
'Black Boy' – Richard Wright (5 stars)

Unread:
'Assata' – Assata Shakur
'Heavy' – Kiese Laymon
'Why I'm No Longer Talking To White People About Race' – Reni Eddo-Lodge
'The Yellow House' – Sarah M. Broom
'Always Another Country' – Sisonke Msimang

There's others on my wishlist, quite a few. The most recent one added is one I want to get quite badly, 'Four Hundred Souls: A Community History of African America, 1619-2019' – Ibram X. Kendi.

The only book by Maya Angelou I haven't read yet is "Letter to My Daughter." It's been on my shelf for quite a while but other books keep competing for my attention, LOL. I didn't realize that some of the letters are written to famous people so that little tidbit of knowledge just bumped it closer to the top of my tbr!!! Have a great evening!

and Jason Reynolds!! I got to help produce a couple of his school talks for kids and he is a PHENOMENAL speaker. SO glad I got to read Stamped, his translation of Dr. Kendi's work for young adults.

I recently read How to Be an Antiracist by Ibram X. Kendi. So many of the books you mentioned are on my radar as well, including Black Fatigue by Mary-Frances Winters. I'm also very interested in seeing what Mediocre by Ijeoma Oluo has on offer.
