I'm sat!
So I am in a new book club in my community. I must say that some of the books are a bit bland because I am use to the black authors and their depth of culture. It is so hard to read them, but I am REALLY trying to read diversely.
Also, my favorite black author is Caleb Azumah Nelson! His books are so so good!❤
You are a must watch in the book community! ❤ I always look forward to watching your videos and getting your book recs. It is the constant encouragement that I need to continue to buy more books by black authors💕 also, I saw the title, We are a haunting by Tyriek White behind you and the title had me intrigued. So I looked it up and it sounds amazing! 😍❤
I absolutely loved last summer on state street! I think you will like it
My Feb TBR is finishing monsters we defy& start reading Before I let go (sum for v day) also finish communion by bell hooks. I don’t read as much but I want to make the effort.
I started monsters we defy! It’s so good. I love the cultural references. I think I maybe a historical fiction girly.
TBR: Chain Gang All-Stars, Parable of the Sower, The Fifth Season, Why are all the Black kids siting together at the cafeteria, Legendborn.
Hard to pick a favorite.. I noticed there weren’t any poetry books on your list so I’ll go with Lucille Clifton (:
TBR: The Message, We Were Eight Years in Power, The Mayor of Maxwell Street, Rafe, Sky Full of Elephants, The Trees, The Sweetness of Water, Black Cake and James. I added Caul Baby because it sounds interesting. I might add Ours as well. Lovely One is actually on my March TBR.
the intro 😂😂😂
Why would you start this video off like this?! 😂
Just found your channel and appreciate the recommendations. I just finished The Lies of the Ajungo by Moses Ose Utomi – so much in such a short space. Looking to read more of his work. Will be reading Do What Godmother Says, The Pulse of Perseverence, and A Lethal Lady.
Hi I love L Penelope books, her Earthsinger Chronicles is amazing, actually reached out and told her so. So real heavy hitters on your list, I am still in my black joy and black love phase❤
Heeeey! I'm planning on reading The Autobiography of Malcolm X, Dont Cry for Me by Daniel Black and finishing up The Misadventures of Awkward Black Girl by Issa Rae 🫶🏽
Darkchild is Brandy’s producer. I know he’s worked with others but off the top that’s what I know.
I have soo many books I need to tackle this year as I get into reading. Hopefully for his month, I can read Bell Hooks “All About Love”. Purchase “A Soul to Keep” and reread so I can read “Second Blood”. Maybe even squeeze in squeeze in LA Banks third book in the Vampire Huntress Series. 😔 so many books so little time.
Go Tell It On The Mountain is on my TBR this month too! Last year when I started trying to read more Black lit, I found that James Baldwin is my favorite! Both his fiction and non-fiction should be required reading for everyone (especially those of us who are melanin-deficient)
Your January and my January are way different. I feel like we should be in June right now as long as this month as been. I don't have a favorite author yet but still finding my way. On my TBR for February are: Go Tell it on the Mountain, A Justified Love affair, The Reformatory, Intrigued by Danger, The Secret World of Maggie Grey and I think I'm going to switch gears with The Healing. There will be others. Yall stay adding to my list.
It’s too many of them, i can’t pick a favorite.
💜💜
Your hair is so cute Shelbey!
Walter Mosley is my fave.
