I read The Deep by Rivers Solomon recently because I wanted to gift the book to my mom for Christmas. I couldn’t post this review/recommendation until now because I didn’t want to spoil her gift opening!
If you’ve been thinking about reading The Deep or are looking for a quick speculative fiction read, then check out this video to see if it might be for you! Have you already read it? What did you appreciate about the book? What were you disappointed by? I’d love to discuss!

Great review, I loved The Deep too. An immersive journey, and I loved how it was intended as a collective co-creation. I also enjoyed Sorrowland (2021) by Rivers Solomon, similar lyrical fantastical world-building based on history and how it lives in generations that follow.
Do you have any tips for finding more time to read? I work a lot and my life is not very stable but I still want to read great content like this.
You have a beautiful complexion!
Some of Joan Slonczewski's fiction has similar ecology and society issues, worth seeking out… mid to late 80s mostly.
Thanks for the recommendation. Take care.
Very interesting story. Thanks for the video. You are right that since I would not be able to achieve any suspension of belief for this story, I would have a lot of difficulty with it. It is clearly a profound story.
I'm so happy you liked it! Always disappointing when you recommend a book and the person in question does not like it xD I'm currently reading To Sleep in A Sea Of Stars and 1Q84 and having a great time with both of them 🙂
The chipperest way to start the day! Happy reading and writing to you and everyone! I'm currently reading the latest OSPD (the scholastic version of the Scrabble dictionary) (yes, I read dictionaries the way others read novels, haha) in order to study and prep for eventually returning to the tourney world! 📚📖👀✍📓🧠
