Growing up Masi read a lot of books, mostly children’s story books and romantic novels as she got older. She realized what she read was mostly content stemming from the 1st world (US or Europe). Not many of the books were ever really of African origin, this wasn’t for a lack of material but rather a lack of exposure. In this talk Masi explains what Afro-futurism is and how it can help propel the African culture and essence across the continent in all forms especially media
Masiyaleti “Masi” Mbewe is a third year Media Studies and English student at the University of Namibia, a freelance writer, amateur photographer and host of her own show on YouTube. She is fiercely passionate about art, film, fashion as well as feminist politics and frequently pursues creative ways to share her ideas.
This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at http://ted.com/tedx

do africans look more like white people in the future?
i LOVE HER VOICE. She's speaking rapidly, but every word is clear and impactful…and melodic. Plus, she's cute.
fire. 10/10. afro futurism is the way to go
we need to know what kinda world we want to live in and the afro-present ain't it lol
I want to be overwhelmed by it too.
It’s embarrassing how the white people in the crowd are more attentive than the melanated ones..
that one girl was on her phone the whole time
Why are you even at the Ted Talk!?😪
Anyway.. the presentation was short and informative💯🇳🇦
I'm mostly white and even I'm like why does every female character need to have blue eyes. Most people do have brown eyes.
Brilliant!
Those hairs looks really uncomfortable, imagine the weight pulling your head to the side lol
She's so well spoken. And really relatable to me as a young, female, writer of colour.
♥️
i like it that she talks all this in english \
New stories can shape new realities.
