So as someone who loves filming discussion videos and watching them I love this series from y’all and the parts where y’all mention social commentary are really interesting to me it makes me want to read it and I’m always up for a book that can make me cry because that’s always a great book to me 👍🏻👍🏻

Did y’all just say language… of the cows?😂😂😂

I love how y’all explain the book to be so sad but so hopeful in a way. I am brown and poor so I deeply relate to being poisoned and still struggle with many respiratory issues because of where I live. I am so exited to read this soon! When I read How Beautiful We Were I have to stop myself and reread because if how beautiful and human it was. Like the author wrote about so many little things, like the details of just living and it was incredible. I have not read any of Tochi Onyebuchis work, but I definitely going to now! If y’all haven’t read Butlers work yet, I highly recommend Earthseed!

This book sounds incredible, I just added it to my tbr on y'all's recommendation. It looks like it came out recently so hopefully it'll still be easily available at bookstores 🤞. I'm going to keep an eye out for it.

I am in awe of how excellent this book was. I knew it'd be good having read Tochi Onyebuchi's work before, but Goliath is indeed masterful. Bought the hardcover after reading the e-book. Of all the '22 releases I've read, this one is the best. ❤

@LiteratureScienceAlliance

I read this book twice in January cause it was so good and I agree its already a modern classic in my mind

“Dystopian book for who? This is a reality”
I loved this, I’m going to try out this book I’ve tried a few of Tochi Onyebuchi‘s books but I haven’t found a favorite yet maybe this will be it.

I loved Goliath❤️ and really enjoyed seeing your insight on the book.
Also, I just found the War Girls duology on Libby and really want to pick it up now.

How Beautiful We Were is on my summer TBR and I am so excited. This book also sounds fantastic. As always y'all's review just makes me wanna pick up this book asap. Environmental justice is such an important topic!

What y'all said about poverty tourism is just shocking. I had never heard of people going through the Bronx on a tour bus…

I am a Boomer from the Bronx & can 100% attest to the "tour" buses coming through our neighborhoods. I also remember the Catholic school I attended loading us on a bus and taking us to see what "nicer" (White) neighborhoods look like, but never letting us get off of the bus in those neighborhoods with no explanation as to why.

The only full cast audiobook I’ve listened to was His Dark Materials, which was distracting. With this book I was having trouble following what was going on with the house demolition tech at the beginning, so maybe the book would work better for me visually.

Y’all didn’t care for Cinderella Isn’t Dead (which I haven’t read), but maybe you’d like the author’s This Poison Heart for Black Girl Magic? Plant magic, Greek mythology, Black witchiness.

No surprises here Goliath is going RIGHT on my tbr. Did we expect anything else? No! I swear y'all are the reason for half my tbr!

3 minutes in and I’m already sold. Another book I’ve picked up and put down at the bookstore countless times- time to pick it up and bring it home I think!
Side note; “The language of the cows” took me out 😂😂

Edit: made it to the end and I’m really looking forward to picking it up. Thanks for this video, love y’all! 💛💛

I am also looking for fiction recommendations surrounding this topic! Definitely adding this to my TBR.

My first reading experience with environmental justice was a non-fiction book: A Terrible Thing to Waste: Environmental Racism and Its Assault on the American Mind. So for readers who are new to the realities of this topic, I would maybe start here in the nonfiction sphere.

Ok… I've never heard of this author (to my shame), but I just went to Amazon and purchased the book. I'm looking forward to reading it!

Thank you for the recommendation!

Goliath is an amazing book. It is a very important, well written, and has stunning world building. I'm not always the most eloquent reader and hence did not finish it before the library claimed it. I was at 50%. I hope to be able to finish it this year. I think the audio book may be what I need in order to push through this. I loved Riot Baby but I also read that one on audio. I honestly was also wondering if the characters would ever meet. Ew, I'd never heard of a poverty tour, that's disgusting. I really need to get the audio for this book, to read along with the text, and finish it. I've never read a full-cast audio. I've read books with dual narrators and I've loved that. Yep. I think this is going on my July TBR to get finished. I also love how you review singular books, it's the deep dive into the topics I feel a lot of reviewers don't do.

".. in the language of the cows" – 🐄🐄
the book sounds crazy good, intense and devastating. The only thing that might hold me back from reading it would be the multiple casting of characters cause I've read some books that did that and I found it hard to keep track of what's happening with everyone while not getting pulled out of the story itself. 😮‍💨
"dystopian for whom?" its also why I hate the gatekeeping of the horror genre, I love supernatural type horror but the ones that always tend to get to me and stay with me are the ones based true to the world we live in. What is more horrifying than the things and lengths we will go to, in order destroy each other and the ground we stand on?
I'll probably keep this book on my tbr back burner and when I'm ready for a good cry, I'll bring it out 🥲😢
