Here in 2025 ready to read✨ Definitely gonna grab out of body!
Greetings,
I am an olde science fiction reader. I started reading Science Fiction in 4th grade before the Original Star Trek. I read very little fantasy. My first SF book is free on the Internet now:
Star Surgeon by Alan E Nourse
The first two books you described I would regard as fantasy. I tried the Broken Earth trilogy by Jemisin. I finished the first and made it half way through the second and could not take any more.
This is Hard science fiction:
A Fall of Moondust by Arthur C Clarke
I read that in 7th grade. That year I decided to go to college for engineering.
These are free on the Internet too:
Black Man's Burden &
Border, Breed nor Birth by Mack Reynolds
Thank you so much for this video. I am from South Africa and looking for more black authors to add to my TBR. Do you read many African Literature from authors who are not black. I highly suggest Lauren Beukus, I think you would enjoy her writing.
I appreciate the details you share on each book and that you even shared one you didnt necessarily like. Theres a few on here ive been wanting to check out
Great recommendations
adding to my list!
Thank you this thorough review. My goodreads bookshelf has grown exponentially 😊

Suyi Davies Okungbowa is a great author. SON OF THE STORM.

Some Black authors who write adult fantasy:
– P. Djèlí Clark mostly writes alt-historical fantasy, though his latest book is set in a fictional world
– Nisi Shawl also writes alt-history, this time more steampunk/science-fiction with a hint of magic
– O. O. Sangoymi just debuted a mythological historical fiction set in 15th century West Africa
– Analeigh Sbrana writes black fae romantasy and debuted earlier this year
– N K Jemisin is probably the most award-winning black fantasy author in publishing right now
– Nalo Hopkinson is a famous black fantasy author here in Canada, don't know if the US knows of her
– Rivers Solomon mostly writes sci-if, but their novella The Deep also has fantasy elements
– Rebecca Roanhorse is Black & Indigenous, most of her books focus on Indigenous characters
You should try NK Jemisin and Octavia E. Butler 🙂 (if you haven’t already)
Great video, yes I would love a video on adult fantasy and adult fantasy romance by black authors.

For adult fantasy you should try Bones to the Wind by Tatiana Obey, L. Penelope has multiple books but her historical fantasy is better than her fantasy romance, Son of the Storm by Suyi Davies Okungbowa, and I Am King by Damien Shillingford
Hello Kayla. I'm a new author that's just written my first novel in the sci-fi fantasy Afrofuturism genre. It's called Quantum Interface. If you are interested, I can send you the PDF for review. Let me know.
I'm interested to hear your thoughts on Dread Nation and Deathless Divide. I thought both were 5-star reads, badass women having adventures and taking revenge in clever ways.
The rage of dragons 5 stars it's amazing I'm going to reread and read the second installment. It's so well written. And to think it was initially self published
Hi Kayla! New subbie here. I just found your channel and I love your videos! I’m an avid fantasy, thriller, and romance reader, and I’m trying to get into more historical fiction and sci-fi, so your channel and recommendations are just what I’m looking for. Based on the recs I’ve seen in your videos so far, I think you’d like Indigo by Beverly Jenkins (Black historical romance author) and the companion novels to that book. There’s also a series called The Loyal League by Alyssa Cole that I think you’d like.
Haven't read these yet but:
*The Unbroken by C.L. Clark
*The Principle of Moments by Esmie-Jikiemi-Pearson
Marlon James
The Broken Trilogy by N.K. Jemisin is one of my favourite Sci-Fi series and thus far I have only read book 1.
Who Fears Death by Nedi Okorafor is really good
🧚🏾
Recently got into reading and books, I’m currently building a library but I want black authors first. I joined a AA women’s book club and have gotten some great reads so far.
Ok the Blueprint sounds really good!
🧚🏾
Blood Debts is absolutely amazing.
🧚🏾
I loved Dread Nation, I suggest the audiobook because the narrator's do a great job

I have accepted the fact that I will never get through my tbr list and I’m ok with that 🤣 I want every book you’ve mentioned 🧚🏽
🧚🏾♂️ Thanks for the recommendations. Where's my wallet? I have a few of these in my shelf. Motivation to read them.
