Otis Spunkmeyer had the best Cookies i ever ate.
Walter Mosley's Easy Rawlings series is amazing (and the fact that they all have colors attached to them) and the newest series with Leonid McGill is great! The Gideon series by Eric Jerome Dickey (the absolute best)
Any recommendations for black males authors for black romance or smut genres?🙂
James McBride is my favorite black male author right now. I absolutely loved Deacon King Kong. #2 on my top five books of the year right now. I also enjoyed razor blade tears by S.A. Cosby, which is crazy because I’m not really into thrillers like that.
I'm just plain old happy that I stumbled across your channel 💛🤎🖤 7/2024.
❤❤
Hello Shelbey. Your channel just came across my algorithm today. I clicked on this video and have become a subscriber.
Good recommendations for black male authors. I would Invisible Man by Ralph Ellison (it is still the most important novel I have read in my entire reading life) Ellison’s magnum opus is a must read.
Walter Mosley, SA Cosby, Percival Everett, & Colson Whitehead are must reads too.
In closing, I will White Pages by Ran Walker (the book has a similar theme to Percival Everett’s Erasure. And two fantasy novellas by Moses Ose Utomi: The Lies of the Ajungo (Book 1) & The Truth of the Aleke (Book 2). Both novellas can be read in one evening and I liked Book 1 more than Book 2…but both are worth reading. The author uses lies & truths as themes through coming of age experiences of teenage boys.
Thanks for the recommendation of A Little Devil In America. I will be getting it from my local library.
Thanks Shelbey and much success for your channel.
Ooo, my favorite, that’s tough—I’d have to say Ernest Gaines. I’m currently enjoying The Road To The Country by Chigozie Obioma. He can WRITE AND it’s a good story!😊
I love me some Victor Lavalle
I’m always looking for black male romance authors.
I initially started getting into reading when I came across Eric Jerome Dickey.
Well, my TBR just exploded.
James McBride, S.A. Crosby and Colson Whitehead of recent years
Walter Mosley fiction is consistently good
Just getting into Everett Percival with Erasure and James
Stop centering men! And worshipping bm especially
Hey lady hey!! I just got finished listening to The Water Dancer and I think i found me a favorite male author! I dont normally read books by black men cuz they typically arent in the fantasy genre or i havent found them… but he's sold me on his writing style…. I found it to be majestic almost. It doesnt hurt that he had Papa Pope reading. It all just came together and did what it was supposed to. But i appreciate the recs and i'm gonna have to broaden my horizons for the magnificence that is black men and their writing!! Thanks!!!
Thank you for exposing me to the fiction genre and black male authors💕💕
Have you read the work of Jamel Brinkley? He’s known for short stories, too. His first collection is “A Lucky Man” and his second collection came out last year it’s called “Witness”. He’s really good. Also, have you read Edward p. Jones stories??
Ernest Gaines is one of my favorite black male authors! I feel like he's not talked about enough
Great vid! Thank you for this.
We Are a Haunting sounds so good. I remember hearing about it and seeing it last year but never picked it up. Sounds right up my alley.
3,000! You will get there!!
I really love the work of Kiese Laymon! HEAVY was the best memoir I’ve read EVER 💯💯💯 I added all of those authors you mentioned to my list! 🔥
I didn’t enjoy Lot I was very disappointed with Lot. I listened to it on audiobook he was narrating and it was terrible.
I enjoyed all the Langston Hughes Simple Stories and The Ways of White People is good.
Phillip B. Williams Ours is a chunky monkey. I also have it on Audiobook qued up.
I am on the fence about Percival James, I did enjoy the movie American Fiction but I don’t think I will be able to read him. I do want to read George M. Johnson All Boys Aren’t Blue and Robert Jones The Prophets. Daniel Black is excellent. I loved Perfect Peace. I have another Daniel Black book They Tell Me Of A Home.
S.A. Cosby is definitely one I would like to read. I got two Walter Mosley books on my bookshelf I have had them for years and haven’t read them. I got Edward P. Jones Lost In The City also and need to read it also.
S.A. Cosby is my favorite Black male author cuz he's the only 1 that I have read. I just got back into reading a few months ago. Thank you for this video
James Baldwin and S A Cosby are must read authors for me.
Caleb Azumah Nelson is definitely my favorite! ❤️both his books Open Water and Small Worlds are stunning!
