I love how you always make it a point to praise and shine light on Black authors!!! 🙌🏾 We need more BookTubers like you tbh. Our people do NOT get enough recognition and I'm thankful you're bringing awareness to these greats!

I'm definitely inspired to read classic literature now, especially by Black pioneers and greats! 💜

I watched the Women of Brewster’s Place several times back in the day and read the book only a few years ago. Of all the books adapted into movies, this is the only from my reading list that was true to the book. It was beautiful to see and I don’t know why Hollywood takes these works and not follow what’s laid out for them.

If you enjoy reading slavery-themed books, I’d really recommend The Season of the Shadow by Leonora Miano. It is phenomenal, approaches the slave trade from the west coast of Africa though, at the point where the trans Atlantic slave trade starts. It’s so good i want everyone to read it.

Did not know there was a sequel to Women of Brewster Place. The Street was so good the janitor made me want to put hands on him. I've read Queen but not Roots. For some reason it's hard for me to go back and read the book if I already seen the movie.

Thank you for sharing! This was a great list. Some books to add to my TBR. I was listening on a drive and heard you mention Flint Schools and had to double take. lol. I grew up through those schools in Flint. It’s so true about the school systems and what some of the choices I’ve made for my kids trying to give them more than I had in school (home as well).
